I blame UI. (Destiny)
Dude! I have 14 motes! Let me pick that one up! You can see how many I have over my head! You have three! Ugggggg. There's also always a time in the match where everyone just stops gathering motes for some reason… like we need 20 to get to our Primeval. Yeah they have theirs up, but why is nobody trying anymore? This happened a lot and I can't explain it.
I really hope that in future updates, there is a UI update to make this more obvious. As in, is you need one more to send something over, your above head counter should be blinking. The Higher you are... bronze silver gold or something obvious like that. Maybe a starburst or something.Maybe make it a team based message "Player X needs 2 more for Med/Large", as small is done rather quickly, and best not to spam too much.
Of course, greed is a factor too suppose, but I'm not sure how to fix that. Best work on the UI instead to help deliver that information easier in the heat of battle.
I'm torn on this. On the one hand, there is a lot going on in a game of Gambit, and that can be overwhelming for new players/teams of randoms who don't communicate. But, that depth and complexity is part of what makes it so good. Its a true TEAM game. It requires coordination, communication, and awareness. I don't think I want the game to start spelling that stuff out in the HUD. They already clearly communicate how many motes each player is carrying. If I, the player, don't think to look and check... well that's my bad, isn't it? Part of a good team game is leaving room for teamwork and coordination to make a real and significant difference. It's not that more UI cues would nullify that. But when I'm playing, I kinda want the UI to just get out of my way as much as possible, assuming it is already telling me all the crucial information. The more blinking, brightly-coloured indicators covering up my screen, the harder it is for me to focus on whatever I'm trying to focus on at that moment.
