My complete argument against gear sunsetting (Destiny)
I'm sure you can all see the point I'm making here; if Bungie actually cares about making gear acquisition exciting, the very first thing they need to improve are the processes by which we acquire new gear. Because they're failing at every turn lately. The gear itself is mostly fine. The way we get it sucks, more often than not.
Doesn't this run counter to the game being about the loot? If every piece of loot is acquired by some kind of fun, interesting quest, then haven't you simply… created a fun game for its own sake? At which point the loot doesn't matter as an enticement. I think this might inadvertently illustrate why making a game about getting cool things will always be worse than making a game about doing cool things.
