But going live on XBL on Bungie Day itself seems kind of...less fun and more hassle than I think anyone on the good ship Bungie would want it to be.

Betas are unfinished, sometimes buggy messes that are meant to be broken. Using a Beta to advertise/market? That's the kind of thing that can blow up in your face. Doesn't really fit in the Bungie Day mythos.
