Hit Level 24 and unlocked Nightfall. Pretty disappointed. (Destiny)

"Requires Better Gear"

It's things like this that really makes me see the fault in Destiny. Leveling up after 20 isn't necessarily about your skill or all that you've accomplished, it's only about how lucky you are to have found that great piece of gear. In my travels on the worlds of our solar system, about four of five full days worth, I've encountered the occasional decoherent engram here and there, including a few today in a couple hours of playing. Before the engram update a few weeks back, I found my first and only legendary engram thus far which ultimately turned out to be a dud - a rare item.

I wonder to myself what I'm doing wrong. Am I not playing hard enough? No, that's not it at all. My aim is true and my proficiency in outwitting the enemy isn't all that bad. So was is it in Destiny that I'm not doing well? Am I not playing the right game modes? I mainly stick to Patrol and Strikes with the occasional Story. I've played quite a bit of Crucible too and have done pretty well. Yet, with all this playtime and bettering my skills, my Level 24 Hunter is scrounging around this world getting nothing in return. All I'm doing is grinding higher in this game for better guns, armor, and little inventory items. How exciting.

This is all that Destiny is for me now. There's no great story to bookend hours of grinding endlessly. The only way to participate in these Nightfall Strikes and Raids is to find, earn, and equip yourself with these powerful items. For a game with an already shitty story, I have no motivation to get to the point to actually play these modes. Don't get me wrong, I really want to progress in this game. But spending days and days trying to get there with the only perks being cool items isn't worth it. No amazing enemies to encounter on your journey or half-assed story to end it is.

No wonder people found solace in the loot caves. It was an easy, rather enjoyable way to circumvent days of having to progress in a pretty boring game. I spent a great deal of the Level 1 to 20 experience with the very same sniper rifle, a fully-upgraded Gozen-C. From the Cosmodrome to the Ishtar Sink I took down baddies with ever increasing power just the same. It was a versatile rifle that marked much of my first forays into Destiny with success. So why aren't there guns and armor like this for Level 20+? Rare items that you can carry with you for the duration of your journey that allow you to come out on top no matter what. Keeping us going in the post-20 game like this is such a bummer. I can't say that I've played a game where your only motivation and your only method to better your character is gear.
