I've had success with the Last Word, Thorn, Word of Crota and Chance in PVP. Chance is a FWC HC. I've used the Red Hand but it seems to fire a little too slow and tends to get outshot by Word of Crota.

The Oversoul works great in PVP and might as well be an autorifle.

For the trials, it looks like people won't be rushing in and will have primarily ranged conflicts. I'm working if this will favor Scout Rifles more.

One game this might be true and the next it might not. Most, if not all, weapons in the game have a stylistic counter. If your opponent is using Thorn or a scout rifle, for instance, engaging at closer ranges with FR's/Shotguns/TLW will be a counter. If they're using the blink shotgun routine, forcing them into choke points with low ceilings and at range will help you counter with snipers/handcannons. Changing your range of engagement and weapons mid-game will go a long way, so start thinking now about what weapons have success for you against other specific weapons/styles.
