Many people view 343 as the stepdad that came into the family acting as if he was your real dad. I personally don't share that feeling, but I can see how one might arrive at it.

I see them more like the stepdad that wanted to impress you, so he came in dressed as Santa and promised to give you all of the presents...but then he just got drunk and threw up all over your Christmas tree instead.
