Xbox One controllers are indeed different in design. The bumper is a clicky hinge rather than the simple button design of the 360.
It's extremely frustrating, but as has been pointed out, some people prefer this for some reason.

You simply can NOT use the XBone bumpers the same way as the 360 version, because they'll feel super stiff and uncomfortable. CruelLEGACEY pointed out why.

This is true. Personally I like the new design, but I think its because I have small hands so my finger naturally sit on the outer edge where you need to press. I can totally see someone with larger hands having problems with this (especially if they're new to the controller).
