(preface written after the below diatribe was made. It started as a short idea but it seems I kind of went off the rails. Seems I had some pinned up frustration.)

Man oh man have I tried to stay positive these past few weeks with everything that has been going on. I bought in to the CoO promotion, the blog post, tweets but I'm just not feeling it.

Last night I completed the CoO story and first heroic adventure for a vexy weapon. Aaaand I'm back to wandering around the EDZ trolling public events.

Titan doesn't capture my attention.
Nessus is a cool environment but I have no comment good or bad about it.
I can't stand Io because of all the vertical leveling, constantly falling off cliffs and deciding if it's worth round-abouting to get back up to where I was.
EDZ is such a cool environment that is spacious, pretty, easy to navigate and has many areas with specific tones but still keeps the same trend.
Mercury looks cool but is kind of drag to have to get around without a sparrow. The terrain is kind of obnoxious. I try to make a straight line to my destination and I'm sliding backwards down steep hills or trying to jump over blocks that I can't jump just high enough to go over.

The CoO campaign was underwhelming. It felt like I was just playing the same mission over and over. The Infinite Forest is a cool concept but it took longer to get through that to get to the mission, than the actual mission lasted. During my third run through the Forest I was tired of having to be there just to get to the mission.

Loot. I've pretty much had the same armor since week 2 of launch, and I don't really like any of it. I loved my hunter in D1, it had character and looked different than anyone else. In D2, Hunter armor all looks the same. Look at these!
Road Complex
Errant Knight
Sword Flight

These all looks the same. There are the armor sets from each planet but they are boring. Iron Banner armor looks cool but good luck getting them. Most of my current armor is from Eververse...and we all have our thoughts about that. I even started hoarding tokens from everything to turn in after CoO in hopes of new armor. Nope. Those same three over and over.

Add to this, if I want to switch armor, I'm going to lose my color shader and mod that is attached to them. Now I have TONS of shaders and mods...but none of them I want. I have so many mods and shaders I don't care about, and don't really have the time to break down the 100 EDZ shaders one at a time to make room for new shaders.

And the mods, good grief can I get a kinetic mod please? And why does there have to be a specific mod for each specific piece of armor? Can't we just have weapon mods and armor mods? Especially for armor. Can't we streamline this a bit instead of taking up 5 spots for grenade cooldown and 5 spots for kinetic reloading and 5 spots for power reloading, etc.

And the submachine guns and sidearms. Can we talk about these? Does anyone use them? Ever? and Grenade launchers too. Yet it seems it's all I ever get.

Now let's look at the rate of progression. In D1, I didn't reach max light until the patch at the very end with the final record book, and they were handing out high light gear like candy on halloween. In D2, I was max light in 3 weeks. In D1, there were so many activities on so many levels. Simple basic tasks like patrols, public events and bounties. Basic tasks for basic gear. Then they had some moderate things like exotic quests which were nothing to sneeze at but obtainable. Then they had challenges like Black Spindle which you had to wipe your brow after and probably call in some friends. Then there were raids and Iron Banner for top tier gear. If you wanted to have the best gear, you had to get your hands dirty.

In D2 it's...here you go. Here is everything up front. Anyone and everyone can have everything. Zero effort, here you go. So now what? "Hey want to play the raid? It's difficult, confusing, frustrating at times and will take a really long time to complete...for pretty much the same reward as 30 minutes doing literally anything else in the game." No thanks, I'll pass.

So why do I keep playing this game? Am I holding on to what used to be? Am I actually having fun playing this game or am I just playing out of habit? I don't know but after purchasing an expansion and being immediately bored with it breaks my heart.
