I imagine a vast majority of the "hype train" stuff is actually activision and their marketing department.

How far ahead of time was Curse if Osiris hyped? I didn’t watch any streams or anything.

We knew about the expansion almost as soon as we were getting trailers and stuff for D2. So pretty darned early. As for Promotional trailers and stuff for CoO... I don't know

I'm fine with Bungie/Activision telling us what expansions to expect, even giving us the basic setting is fine IMHO, I don't feel that feeds to the over-hype-train. My problem comes with the detailing of everything in the expansion before hand.

Edit: heck, I'd even be happy with them giving us an idea of the size of the expansion. # of strikes, # of multiplayer maps, an idea of the story length.
Edit2: in fact, they really need to communicate that.
