It's undoubtedly both. Tons of folks literally just wanted the actual grimoire cards to be accessible in the game. Tons of folks wanted the actual narrative of the Destiny campaign to be as well written as the stuff in the grimoire. I suspect tons of people want both.

Look no farther than Mass Effect. A well told story through the campaign and side quests, and a massive codex giving us the history of that world. That's certainly what I want.
