There's a strong Macintosh legacy among a lot of Bungie fans, for one thing. I'm not saying that explains the interest of most who expressed themselves in this thread, but my interest really began about 30 years ago when I got my first Mac.
Mine, too!
That and having a grandfather who operated his own movable type Heidelberg press out of his garage.
Incidentally, Futura has always been one of my favorite fonts. I used it for headlines at my undergraduate paper when we did a redesign following our first foray into desktop publishing, and for subheds at the first job I had as a paginator coming out of grad school.
