Ah, but I do understand how gold is economically valuable to us. It was a pretty major point my school tried to push me.

What I meant, is that their (the Guardians in the image) reaction to the piles of gold seem very... underwhelming. So it is either of very low-value to them, or very low-value to them in contrast to what else is possibly in the vault.

And that is what makes my imagination go wild.

But yes, I did need a refresher on the importance of gold in modern technology.

Their reaction to the piles of gold is intentional, I think. Look at where the figure is walking in the image - not toward any gold or jewelry, but to a mechanical/electronic device with wires coming out of it.

They're not looking for gold, lost technology on the other hand...
