They do have volume and blend controls on the cups, but the levels don't taper nicely. It goes from too loud to not much different to off. And there's no mute switch. Plus you need to take your hand off the controller to make changes.

If I'm playing with other people and using my mic, I'll actually stick with a cheap set of earbuds and the chat adapter.
