The chat adapter is awesome. You get master volume controls, game/chat volume blend controls, and a mic mute button all right there. I actually wish Sony would release a similar product for the PS4, even though it isn't "required" just so I could get all those controls.

The Astro Mix amp does all that and more. I use it with my PS4.

Caution, there are now proprietary flavors of the mixamps that aren't cross-platform.

For example the "MixAmp m80" is ultimately just the chat adapter. It doesn't handle mixing Dolby Headphone; You're getting a stereo headphone experience.

Yeah, that's one is obviously Xbox only, but now there are one for each platform (PS4 and Xbox) in the old form factor.
