Thoughts on April Update? *now with edit* (Destiny)

You definitely had a lousy opinion about Prison of Elders.

I'm fine with PoE as an activity on par with the strike playlists. A pallet-cleanser that I can jump into once in a while when I want to relax with some mindless shooting. My problem with it is that it is instantly repetitive in a way that makes it a drag to focus on as the primary end-game activity. Every single wave is the same, regardless of the arena or enemies: you group up in a corner for as long as you can, then run laps around the outside of the arena until it is safe to group up in the corner again.

Sammy and I ran with a friend that had never played any Raid or PoE, and we definitely noticed how much fun PoE was when you're not backed into a corner the whole match. We were everywhere, and during Arc Burn we all whipped out our Zhalos and went to town (We even killed Skolas before his first wave of mines were up). It was as close to ODST firefight as it could get, but the return of a challenge is a neat idea (especially timed boss battles).

Many of the boss fights end up playing the same way as well, with the added objective of shooting the boss from the corner and dodging the boss' fire while you run around the edges. Again, that's all fine, but it just doesn't have the depth to make it as replayable as the primary end game activity needs to be, IMO.

And what are the raid boss fights? Atheon was all about doing some teamworky mechanics, then getting into place in the middle and doing damage.
Crota was all about doing some teamworky mechanics then getting in the middle and doing damage,
Warpriest, Golgoroth, sisters, and Oryx are all about getting in the middle and doing damage after some teamworky mechanics.

At least with Skolas you could damage him at will, while making a strategy about movement, objectives, and poison exchange. And the other bosses had mechanics to deal with throughout the fight that kept things interesting (finding Qodron's Eye, lol).

That being said, if this new PoE came with revamped arenas, I'd be way more excited about it. I think the arenas are the single biggest problem with year 1 PoE. I just don't think they are well designed playspaces for this sort of activity.

Sure it wasn't the Firefight that we had hoped for, but it was a pretty unique challenge with good rewards in its day.

... which rewards are you thinking of? I remember the PoE weapons being severely outclassed by the other raid weapons and the trials gear. Unless I'm forgetting something.

Lord of Wolves? Queenbreaker's Bow? and the Queen's sniper was really high impact, outclassed only by Black Hammer and Efrideet's Spear.
Plus, the Armor was high level for its time, and the highest PvE gear available.
Plus, the Etheric Light rewards were pretty vital.
