This wasn't aimed at you, BECAUSE YOU ALREADY PREORDERED. This is aimed at people on the fence. You're just a bystander who happens to benefit from it.

Presumably retailer specific bonuses are meant to influence me to spend money at one retailer over the other. But I had to choose to preorder somewhere before last Tuesday or Wednesday to get into the beta early... Wouldn’t it make more sense to have these special bonuses on offer before that deadline had come and gone?

That would, in fact, make a lot more sense.

I'm guessing some retailer wanted a bigger slice of the pre-order pie and didn't realize that the beta had happened already (or didn't even know about the beta). They called activision and said "we'll pay you X to give us something good" and activision called Bungie and said "what can you whip up in Y amount of time?" and then called back the retailer and said "how about this thing?" and the retailer did a goddamn backflip and paid a bajillion bucks. Or maybe Activision wanted more money to announce the bonus before the pre-order and the retailer balked at that. Who knows?

All I can say is that any late-breaking pre-order bonuses concern me because it seems to indicate that the impending release won't review well. : /
