Shards (Destiny)

I shard a ton of legendaries. I don't think I play that much. But when every legendary/exotic is between 1-7 shards, it adds up pretty quickly.
And I do infuse quite a bit.
That part I kinda gathered.
How in the hell are you racking up that many drops? I feel like it's been a good night if I've clocked an hour or two doing events, and then another two or so doing strikes, and walk away with maybe five or six, as opposed to the absolutely insane number of rares that drop every 30 seconds.
