Yeah, as Xenos said.
What little story there is in the game is definitely not the reason to play it. It's just a fun sandbox style stealth/action/assassination game. They give you vague reasons to kill the people you're killing, and that's really about as deep as it goes.
This is a very entertaining video that shows the ridiculousness/awesomeness of Hitman 2016.
