ALL PLAYERS...ONE WORLD? (Destiny)

Destiny has all players together in one massive world and links you with smaller groups at appropriate locations and times.
I want to know more details about THIS ^^^^
"all players together in one massive world"
NO mention of platforms or game networks...could they have figured out a way for the players on different platforms to influence ONE world of Destiny as a whole, even if we can't play directly cross-platform/network?
