You hit the nail on the head!

I'll bet that the 'Magic' in Destiny is gonna turn out to be like the 'magic' in Halo, anyway.

I reckon the term was used as a whitewash term to explain why the player characters have 'powers' without giving away important story elements. It's 'magic' now, till they reveal more about the traveller, why it 'saved' us and what is actually going on.
