DoT as a crutch

I think that's the issue. The only two hand cannons that work well as spray and pray weapons are TLW and Thorn. Spray and pray is kinda the point with TLW, but it is limited by range (somewhat) and capacity. Thorn has good range and capacity. The DoT rewards players that spam body shots and run away or die. You don't have to land headshots to get the kill unless you're up against other Thorn users. In a lot of other cases, as long as you get 3 shots off you'll get the kill, even if you die before they do.
