People might use them a ton in trials but I still see plenty of other people using other guns in normal Crucible and even IB. I probably only come across one thorn user per match in normal PVP.

I just jumped over to DestinyTracker and looked at my second-to-last game last night:

1 thorn user (total, both teams). He was 4th on our team.

(The game before this and the game after had more - but the point is, I didn't have to look hard to find a game with only one. :) )
