I'm sort of in the same boat. I think after I try trials, and after I try the heroic raid, I might put the game down. Mostly because of the stupid updates with motes / weapon parts etc, but also microtransactions. The difference is this time it would be in disappointment after much satisfaction, versus in uncontrollable rage.

Literally all Bungie needs to do is make infusion give 100% of the attack value, undo the materials changes last patch, tone down sun breaker, remove microtransactions, and remove The grind for Hadium flakes. That's as perfect of a game as they are ever going to make as an MMO right there.
