What's wrong with them hacking in a fix to hold us over while they work on fixing it for real?

Because anyone who writes code for a living can attest that temporary hacks almost always become the long term solution.

Once you put something in place that "works well enough", the priority to go back and fix the actual root cause plummets to the floor
