Does changing from stereo, to 3D audio with surround sound, to headphones on a VR headset change how you design the audio?

A: Yes, HRTF requires headphones. Surround Sound needs at least 6 speakers. There is some new tech (3DA) coming out of Princeton that might give us 3d audio from stereo speakers. We design with your ears in mind. With a head tracking camera, I know where they are.
