For whatever it's worth, I totally understand your concerns.

In the past, I have found Bungie.org (first at HBO, and now here at DBO) to be a very welcoming place to newbies, but there is still a very real sense of there being a "cool kids club" sometimes. That's not necessarily a negative thing--that's how it's always going to be when you have a community that's been around for as long as this one has. I posted decently frequently at HBO from about the launch of Halo 2 onward, but it's only within about the last year or so that I've felt truly like a real member of the community and feel like people around here "know" me, and I'm not just another random voice in the crowd.

I definitely see the use case for this though. I don't really see it becoming a problem. I think the primary use for the FTB will always be finding folks to form a party. I certainly hope so! I'm with you, in that I love playing with new people. I've played with more B.org folks because of FTB than I did throughout all of Halo. The HBO Clans were very cool (HBO Forerunners for life!), but because of them I only played with the same 12 or 15 people, a tiny subset of the entire community. FTB has been great for mixing that up.
