The only time I'd use the feature is if I had previously talked about doing an event w/ someone (IRL or on the forum). I would make a private event, send them the link, and then open it up after they've signed up.

Well, if this were really your only need for it, you don't need it - because as the creator of the event, you can sign up your IRL friend when you create the event (and delete them if they change their mind).

(I know, I'm not helping. ;) )

That's been going on awhile. I stopped bothering to use or check the FTB when the majority of events at times I could play were created from scratch, with 6/6 players, all names submitted by the event creator.
