They're not obviously that different, but the extra 80 points is a dollar layer pissed people off. It might have been less annoying if everything in the store was in multiples of 400 points and cost less.

I'm sure having an excess so you want to get a little more to buy something was part of the reason it was like that, but the stated reason, which I think was at least a big factor, was so they could have a unified currency across all their markets and adjust the real money price for different currencies and for inflation.

I think it was about 90/10.
