Umbra Software will be presenting with Bungie’s Senior Graphics Architect, Hao Chen, at GDC in a session titled "Powering up Destiny’s Level Creation and Rendering with Umbra 3". They've posted a short preview on their company blog in the form of a couple questions with Hao on why Bungie used their technology for Destiny. Give it a read! (Thanks, RiotPelaaha.)
A week ago, we mentioned a movie poster, whipped up by Firestream, to celebrate Destiny, the Movie. Today, Bungie highlighted a new version - same movie, more badass poster!
Go check it out, grab a copy for yourself!Mr Daax on our own forums brought up a very cool TED Talk video regarding the nature of mathematical fractals. The talk itself focuses on the fractal integration of African designs, but there is a particular section (approximately 10:50-14:00) that Destiny fans might find particularly interesting, especially those that involved themselves in the latest Destiny ARG. If you are wondering about geomancy and geomantic symbols, this is a very cool video to check out! Might we see more patterns like this creep up in Destiny's future? We'll see!
OXM UK posted an article detailing some of the reasons Bungie decided to go with both a science fiction and fantasy setting for Destiny.
Fantasy brings us this texture that we can wrap around sci-fi, which is really appealing, especially if you're an artist who's just been stuck making straight up space armour for ten years. A bit of cloth is very refreshing.
The coolest characters always have capes! Thanks, Xenos.
Conscars, at DestinyHub, has written up his predictions for what we'll learn about Destiny during the Game Developers Conference starting next Monday - he takes hints from a variety of published sources to come up with ideas about what might be next, and whether he's right or not, it's a pretty interesting read! Check it out. Thanks, Spawn.
