Exclusive games aren’t a blanket bad thing. Would Naughty Dog have been about to hone their craft so well if they were always looking for funding for the next project? I’m sure they still have to justify themselves to Sony, but I’d bet that’s much easier to do than trying to pitch projects to Activision.
Would Guerilla have been given the leeway to jump to a great open world action game in Horizon, coming from a series of mediocre first person shooters if they weren’t first party? Who knows. Maybe they could have. But us difficult for me to argue with the results.
Hell, would Bungie have been able to make Halo the series it was? Again, maybe. But MS basically but LIVE around what they needed for Halo 2. Is impossible to separate one from the other, and I sincerely doubt that Halo would exist in such a fashion as it did without them being owned and funded by MS.
