The Sounds of Destiny

If you missed the live Twitch stream discussing Destiny's sound design this morning, never fear, Bungie will have an archive up soon. Right now, though, you can watch their newest ViDoc - it's called 'The Sounds of Destiny', and it focuses on how the team built the soundscape that envelops you when you play the game. A fantastic watch!

The Taken King Soundtrack Available Now

Bungie has made the digital edition of The Taken King soundtrack available at the Bungie Store. It includes music from The Taken King obviously, as well as the music we heard during The Dark Below and House of Wolves. No news yet on when (or if) it will be available elsewhere, but it DOES come with Apple Lossless, FLAC, and MP3 formats, plus digital liner notes and an exclusive in-game emblem! Not too bad!

Q&A Stream with Marty and Michael

Marty O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori, as well as the Sledgehammer audio design team, answered questions on the G.A.N.G. awards Twitch stream after the 1:39 mark. There's some great questions and insight into their industry and field, as well as some specific thoughts on Destiny's (and Halo's) audio, and what exactly working with Paul McCartney meant to the team and the game.

Destiny Beats RNG at Game Awards

The Game Awards were held last night (with a familiar composer in charge of the music) and Destiny managed to win two awards, Best Online Experience and Best Soundtrack! You can watch a replay of the event, or just see who the rest of the winners were.

Weekly Update and Destiny Soundtrack

The Bungie Weekly Update landed early today with the announcement of the long-awaited Destiny Original Soundtrack! You can grab it now from iTunes and the Update says that more information is coming next week about further availability. The full album (which I have yet to finish listening to) clocks in at over 2 hours, 18 minutes, which is right around the limit of a 2-CD set.

There's also an interview with Invigorate, the first clan to beat the Vault of Glass on hard mode, a mysterious coin hunt in the Tower, and another Mail Sack for your perusal.

Straight from the source.

In addition to today's ViDoc, Bungie has released a wealth of new Destiny content at various official pages:

  • DestinyTheGame.com has launched and provides links to a concept art gallery as well as a place where you can preorder the game (Xbox 360 and PS3).
  • The Bungie Store has been updated, though currently you might have an easier time finding the new stuff on Amazon. New shirts, posters, decals, and a very limited edition lithograph!
  • Bungie.net has a new media page with more concept art.
  • The ARG from the past week has concluded and the reward is ample: a new page provides a number of beautiful desktops and a jaw-dropping taste of the Destiny soundtrack.
Enjoy!
