His general point was more about looking at the big picture within our current day. People in Canada and the US throw temper tantrums over their cellphones while less fortunate people face real problems :)

I added more to my post to cover this. Happiness is not absolute: it is relative.

Very true, but we as humans have the ability to adjust our own perspective. Someone who feels genuinely miserable about their cellphone might start to feel differently if they really begin to consider the problems others face.
