I do not like them as exotics. (Destiny)

Those were fine. The game didn't have an in game collection thing for them at that point. Either or is fine. I'd prefer it if either they dropped the collection element or made the guns legendaries.

The "collection element" was an asked for feature, and I suspect not something that was Bungie's original intention. As someone who never visited the Lighthouse, and never earned my Thorn or even Invective, I'm okay with Destiny being a meritocracy as long as we're talking about items that aren't necessary to play the game. I think it's okay to allow the words legendary and exotic to carry a little of their actual meaning.

I am earning the Chaperone, though, three percent at a time. ;)

Well said.

The other part of this that I personally don't relate to is the "I wish I could get it but I never will" mentality. So far, none of these exotic quests are that demanding. I've seen a few people say things like "I'd love to get this gun but I suck at PvP so that's not fair". Isn't the idea of needing to work towards something the entire point of quests like this? Challenging yourself and improving until you finally complete a task which felt beyond you in the beginning: isn't that what makes these activities feel rewarding?

When Trials of Osiris started, I wasn't a particularly good PvP player. Perhaps slightly better than average, but not by much. But I really wanted to get to the lighthouse and earn that gear. So I practiced. I played and played, and really paid attention to what went well and what went wrong. I watched the other players, both on my team and against me, to see how they would succeed or fail.

That time and effort is exactly what made going to the lighthouse feel like such an achievement every single time. The gear was more than a nice reward, it was also a symbol of that achievement.

Now, if someone really doesn't like playing PvP but they feel forced to in order to earn a gun they want, that is a different issue. I totally get that frustration.
