I like them as exotics for actual gameplay reasons (Destiny)

It limits you to equipping just one of these reward weapons at a time, which means that you don't end up in a situation where all three weapon slots are full of high barrier to entry weapons that many players simply will never get. Only one slot is full that way, and you have to make a choice about which slot it should be, plus it puts that prestige reward item in competition with the other, non-reward-but-still-very-awesome exotics.

This means no one should feel like they *must* collect the challenge based reward exotic items in order to be competitive since they can plug in a different exotic instead and still be quite powerful.

I do not miss the days of Fatebringer + Black Hammer + Gjallerhorn.
