But I am still baffled at how it passed certification. The game crashes REGULARLY. I was under the impression that to pass cert, your game must not ever crash. If this got past certification, then what the hell is certification FOR?!

That explains why bugs and glitches and performance issues get past cert, but not crashes. The game literally crashes. Often. In fact, the very thread you linked says crashes are a fail condition (the example he uses is unplugging the controller leads to a crash = fail).
