For what it's worth... (Destiny)

I know myself and this means I will probably hoard shaders and use them only when I get dupes, if then.

It's a shame because finding the right shader for your armor combo was something I really enjoyed. The dress-up Barbie aspect of Destiny has now been killed for me.

I don't have that big a problem with buying shaders if they were reusable and if you knew what you were getting.

On the plus side, now we won't have to wait as long for Destroyoboy to prepare for raids.

I've put in something close to 20 hours at this point, and I'm already drowning in shaders. I've probably got somewhere around 15 unique shaders, and between 5-10 of each of them.

I don't like the new system either (I see absolutely no player-friendly reason to make them consumable), but based on what I'm seeing so far, it looks like the drop rates are beyond plentiful.

Even so, this system kills any interest I have in using shaders at all until I get some gear that I know I want to keep.

I felt much the same way, but I totally understand why they felt the need to make it less user-friendly. It's a fair tradeoff to not having to level any of our loot. Grinding for cosmetics as the true endgame is something that I can totally get behind.

It also helps that some armors and such already have a shader applied to them, though I'm not sure how random the shaders are on gear.

But yeah, I feel like I'm committing to a certain piece of armor or weapon if I apply a shader to it, and it's far too early to say for sure what armors I'm going to be happy with (especially since it seems that there are some Legendary versions of Blue gear, and I have a pair of Blue warlock legs that I love more than any of the Legendary legs so far (it's always those dang Warlock legs)...
