Today is Tuesday, which means tonight another episode of dboTV will be broadcast live on our Twitch channel! (twitch.tv/DestinyBungieOrg) The show starts at 10:00 pm EDT (7:00 pm PDT) but you can join the pre-show chat starting at 9:45 (6:45). This week I've got plenty of news to cover and maybe one or two prizes to give away, so be sure to tune in!
In the unlikely event that you weren't able to join us for our first episode of dboTV you can watch archived versions on YouTube and Twitch.tv.
If you missed last week's teaser, I'll get you up to speed: dboTV is a Destiny news show that will air every Tuesday at 10:00 pm EDT (7:00 pm PDT) at twitch.tv/DestinyBungieOrg. The first episode premieres TONIGHT, so tune in if you want to catch up on a week's worth of Destiny news. (Or if you're already up-to-date, stop by anyways and join the live chat! The pre-show fun starts at around 9:45 / 6:45.) Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be in my trailer practicing my lines.
Yep.
If you haven't been tricked by MoltenSlowa's deceptive forum thread titles yet, you might not be aware that he's been working with community members Padraig, Bones, and Unhh on a Bungie.Org-themed version of the risqué party game Cards Against Humanity. There's still time to submit your own card ideas, but that window closes this week - so get moving! (If you're confused by the concept, this forum post might help clear things up.)
Will you be in the Seattle area during PAX Prime next month? Want to meet up with some of your fellow DBO community members? I've put together a short questionnaire to help us plan a Public Event or two, so check out the details in this thread, then follow this link to take the survey. See you soon!
Sharp-eyed followers of our E3 coverage may have noticed some exotic loot being tested by the away team: official DBO shirts! Our friend kanbo put these together for us and now he's ready to take orders from the entire community. Here are the details:
You can order your shirt on kanbo's site, DownPixel.com.
Our Grizzled Ancient and his fearless Vanguard were prominently featured in Bungie's "E3 Day 1: ReCap" video! Thanks for noticing, Spawn!
Xenos has come up with a fun forum game to play while watching Bungie's E3 reveal next Monday - Destiny BINGO! He needs to get an idea of how many people are interested in playing, so be sure to leave a message in this thread if you want your own Bingo card. I hear there might be a prize for the winner...
Our E3 preparation continues with a request for the video animators within our community. Next week's events could result in the first DBO video production, and we need your help creating a classy intro animation for our footage! If you're interested in earning a free DBO shirt, check out this thread for the details.
It's time for Week 6 of the DBO Challenge! Check this thread for details, then show us your favorite television show through some (intentionally) low-fidelity art! While you're at it, don't forget to read back through Week 5's weapon ideas and all of the crazy stories they inspired.
(If you're in the mood for something off-topic and of a higher-quality than MS Paint usually provides, be sure to check out this gorgeous 10-page preview of "Mayflower", an original comic from our resident artist Leviathan.)
The DBO Challenge returns! Check the thread for highlights from week four's limerick competition and learn about the fresh challenge for week five, where you can earn points by inventing a new weapon for Destiny and giving it a backstory. Get to it!
Updated the Leaderboard's data,
and gave out Steam codes for a beta.
The Challenge this time?
Earn armor through rhyme!
(I hope I'm not getting too meta.)
Firestream had some time today, and created a pair of DBO-specific desktops (Variant 1 | Variant 2) - grab one and show off our beautiful logo whenever you're at your computer! These are enormous - 3200x2400, weighing in at about 3.5 mb each - so you can scale them to almost any screen. If a DBO-specific desktop doesn't cut it for you, check out his Tricorn version - 1920x1200, just over 300kb. Love this one too!
ncsuDuncan wrapped-up Week 2 and kicked-off Week 3 of the DBO Challenge last night. This week's assignment: Choose a piece of Destiny concept art along with a selection of music, then write a short paragraph or poem to help combine the two. There's also a bonus raffle for two lucky participants this week! We already a number of submissions in the forum, and the deadline is next Tuesday at 6:00 pm EDT, so be sure to submit your selections!
Pick one of your favorite movies and boot up MS Paint - it's time for Week 2 of the DBO Challenge! Visit this thread on our forum for more detailed instructions and be sure to check out the bonus category winners for Week 1's haiku challenge. What are you waiting for? Start drawing!
I was convinced, after MUCH debate, to add a news-only Twitter feed to HBO a little while ago. Turns out, it's a pretty useful tool for folks with Twitter accounts who want to keep track of new content from their favorite fansite. (We ARE your favorite fansite, aren't we? AREN'T WE?) So the question of a Twitter account for DBO was never really about 'do we do it?' but 'how do we do it?'
The crew of DBO is much more socially integrated than the old guard at HBO - there was a lot of push for a fully interactive feed. You can tweet us Destiny news, we can tweet you DBO posts, and we can answer your questions. But what about people who really just want notifications of new newsposts at DBO? Should they be left out in the cold (or have their Twitter stream inundated with discussion they're not interested in) just because they don't feel like jumping to our front page every once in a while?
Our solution was simple: we've got TWO feeds. One is just newsposts - it's a mirror of the HBO Twitter feed. You get a headline, and a link to the full article if you want to read it. The other includes these posts, as well... but ALSO allows full interaction. A number of people will be monitoring the feed, and responding to tweets from you, the public. You get to choose how much DBO to put in your Twitter stream. Either way, you get a GORGEOUS new piece of artwork from Levi to look at - please do NOT miss it.
Ta-da! We've finally selected a logo from the many, many awesome and wonderful submissions over the last few weeks. Congratulations to Dean Hofmeyer for coming up with what ended up being the "winning" entry in our Community Collaboration. ncsuDuncan has the full scoop in the forums, so go check it out and join in the converstaion.
And a HUGE "thank you" to everyone who submitted their designs and took part in the discussion to help find our brand. You are awesome!
DBO needs a new logo and we're giving you the chance to pitch your ideas! Check out this thread in the forum and start brainstorming.
