Gus (Robert Duvall) is an old Texas Ranger turned rancher. In his old days, he fought in the Indian wars. He makes light of every situation. He likes drinking, gambling and loose women. He likes to delegate chores to the younger folk and sit on the porch and make commentary about the way it should be done. But when SHTF, he jumps back into action. Even when on his death bead with an arrow in his leg, he's still making wisecracks.
It's how some people deal with things. Hell, it's how I deal with things.
Lonesome Dove is a fantastic novel!
