Sometimes things feel like they're moving really slowly... and other times, I'm blown away by the speed. TTL Demag0gue approached me, a couple of days ago, with the idea of a Fan Fiction section here at DBO. He was willing to do the setup and the maintenance - two tasks that scared me enough to think we might not ever get to one. I eagerly took him up on his offer - and thought that in a month or two, or maybe even a few weeks, if we were lucky, we could announce the new section. Instead, we're opening our doors today. The man's amazing! If you would like to submit content, it's pretty simple; just set up an account and submit your story. It will be reviewed, and if it meets the submission guidelines, we'll approve it and you'll find it on the Fan Fiction front page. A huge shout-out to TTL Demag0gue for making this possible so quickly (and so beautifully)!
Seems like everyone wants to get in on the Destiny fan fiction craze lately - TTL Demag0gue informed us of his own contribution, "Forward Unto Destiny". Check it out!
If yesterday's bit of Fan Fiction left you wanting more, Mix has delivered with part one and part two of "Destiny Awaits". Give it a read, then discuss it in the thread!
Kiefer I. stopped by the forum to let us know about a new piece of fan fiction that has been posted. It's a quick read at 3.5 pages and manages to pull a nice scene out of the scant plot details we've been given. Check it out!
I'm not sure we're ready to open a Fan Fiction section here on the site yet... but that doesn't stop fans who want to write Destiny Fan Fiction. To wit: Xenos posted a short piece on our forum based on nothing more than the ideas of time-traveling robots... and named weapons. Pretty fun! Go give it a read.
This post by Levi is absolutely worth your time if you have any interest at all in how artists work. He's taken his 'Brothers in Arms' piece (we're using it as our Twitter background) and broken down the creation process - how he laid it out, why certain parts look they way they do, that sort of thing. I'm not an artist - but this fascinated me. And it's full of pretty pictures - well, one pretty picture, in a large variety of forms. (I do have one bone to pick with him - he insults what might be the finest-tasting cola in the US, for no good reason. I forgive him, though, because he draws so amazingly well...) Check it out!
Harpiya was inspired by TDSpiral's Destiny fan art (and Bungie's own work, of course), and stopped by today with a piece of her own - it's gorgeous. Go see.
calcarlson has created some amazing Destiny-inspired sculptures so far - we mentioned his Fallen sculpt two weeks ago, and his Space Zombie a few days later. He's back, with a new writeup in Bungie's Blog today - this time, his focus is a Warlock. If you love this work as much as I do, you might want to join his new group on Bungie.net - it's called Art and Stuff, and it's for artists and art enthusiasts alike! Awesome stuff.
Guardians of Destiny have released their fourth podcast - discussion focuses on content from the latest Edge magazine, recent patent filings, and this week's Mail Sack. Thanks, Xenos.
A week ago, we mentioned a movie poster, whipped up by Firestream, to celebrate Destiny, the Movie. Today, Bungie highlighted a new version - same movie, more badass poster!
Go check it out, grab a copy for yourself!OXM UK posted an article detailing some of the reasons Bungie decided to go with both a science fiction and fantasy setting for Destiny.
Fantasy brings us this texture that we can wrap around sci-fi, which is really appealing, especially if you're an artist who's just been stuck making straight up space armour for ten years. A bit of cloth is very refreshing.
The coolest characters always have capes! Thanks, Xenos.
Conscars, at DestinyHub, has written up his predictions for what we'll learn about Destiny during the Game Developers Conference starting next Monday - he takes hints from a variety of published sources to come up with ideas about what might be next, and whether he's right or not, it's a pretty interesting read! Check it out. Thanks, Spawn.
Whoa. TDSpiral stopped in last night with a new piece of fan art - almost a speed painting. (He whipped it together in 5 hours.) It's gorgeous! He also released a Wallpaper version. The cockles of my heart are warm. Maybe it's the subcockle area, actually...
An article on GenGAME explains to you why the announcement for Destiny should not be considered 'disappointing'. (Funny - I didn't consider it 'disappointing' even BEFORE I read the article...)
nRGmusicproduction recreated the music from the Destiny PS4 reveal trailer using Reaper. MathChief11 combined the recreated music with a sideshow of official and fan-made Destiny art - very cool!
Narcogen has taken a look at what Bungie had hoped to do with Halo, and compared this to what they DID do... and he uses this information to speculate about Destiny's future, based on what we've seen so far. Interesting article! Thanks to Xenos for pointing it out.
Reconcilliation was curious about the lack of speculation surrounding the concept art we've been given so far - so he kicked off a thread showing off the images, and daring people to jump in. It's off to a fine start - go read, and see what you can add, yourself!
NartFOpc stopped by with a couple of pictures - one shows off his brand-new Fallen lithograph, now framed and on his wall (noice!), while the other shows off some very cool fan-created Halo props he just received (he said he wouldn't crosspost, the meanie). Go look!
calcarlson shared his Space Zombie sculpture on the Bnet forums - for not having many references, I think the sculpt turned out really nice. If you haven't already, be sure to also check out his Fallen sculpture from last week. I can't wait to see what he does next!
Firestream whipped up a movie poster for 'Destiny' - I'm almost sold, but I need to know who's under that Fallen mask.
A couple of forumgoers, breitzen and kapowaz, dropped off a few different destiny-related wallpapers, inspired by their respective logo proposals. Whether these get chosen (or incorporated) into the final DBO logo or not, the wallpapers themselves are pretty slick!
Swing by the thread to pick up a copy of one or all!
DaFrontlineTrooper constructed his first Destiny prop based off of the work-in-progress models seen in the Pathways Out of Darkness ViDoc. Check it out!
