The boring cave (Destiny)

Grind rep and marks. That's how you get legendary gear. It's clear to me that the game was designed to prevent farming of engrams and promote playing patrols for rep and strikes for marks. You'll spend just about as much time grinding for the marks and the rep and buying the gear as you would hoping RNG drops you each piece of gear from the loot cave. The loot cave panders to the instant gratification and immediate disappointment of having the purple engram decrypted to a blue; however, the marks and rep grind is the long game that is ultimately more rewarding and efficient.

To get extocis, replace marks and rep with Strange Coins in the previous paragraph. Grind the weekly nightfall and the weekly strike on higher difficulties.

Everything takes time, there is no shortcut.
