Interesting point. (Destiny)
Sometimes I feel like "light matters" is code for "grind harder if you want to play in a competitive environment".
That's really interesting to hear. The way I'm experiencing it (and the way I think Bungie intended it) is that there are now more avenues to reach the max light level than ever. It is freeing and allows me to play the game however I want.
Your experience is that the widening of the gates to get to max light is less freeing. Instead you feel obligated to do other things than your preferred activity in order to stay competitive in the one you do enjoy.
I don't know a way around that for Bungie other than to create an alternate ToO where light doesn't matter.
