I don't get it. (Destiny)

Even with no changes, I'd still like to see sparrow racing return every so often. Make it a rotating weekly event like the iron banner maybe? Heck I'd even be happy for a random daily featured playlist that was SRL.
Make it Permanent. Why not? I'd play it.
IB works because it isn't permanent. If it was always live, the community wouldn't gather around it and play for a week together. I think the same mentality goes with SRL. Remember when rocket race was new? It was awesome and everyone played it. Remember what became of it after it became a regular feature? The playlist was mostly empty.
But SRL is so DIFFERENT from other activities in Destiny. What you're saying is akin to "Don't have Nightfalls/Raids available every week, because people will stop playing them."
That being said, I'd like for SLR to be an option all the time, but maybe have a special tournament every other month or so to bring the community together.
