About spoilers, I get that it’s not a big deal. I get that studies show that people actually enjoy stories more when they know what’s going to happen. (It’s probably one reason why I enjoyed Stranger Things so much—I felt like I knew what was going to happen in the next minute throughout that show.)

But the opposite is true of game challenges. It immediately eliminates the pleasure / thrill of discovery when you know the solutions and strategies ahead of time. Film doesn't work that way because you are not overcoming the challenge yourself, but watching someone else. The "how you get there" is precisely what is ruined when you tell someone how a boss mechanic works.

I can't explain the level of satisfaction I had when we all realized "Oh, the back of the pillars light up" after spending an unnacceptable amount of time guessing the order on Warpriest. I mean, it's those moments of sheer accidental discovery of a hilariously simple mechanic that make Destiny great.

Not the phenomal FPS mechanics. Nah, those don't matter.
