Bungie let folks know about a Cosplay meetup on Saturday, and some awesome costumes showed up - but so did a large number of unadorned Destiny fans. When the official gathering was finished, BaghdadBean used her outside voice to wrangle everyone remaining into a small enough space that photos could be taken (and then TOOK the photo). Click on the image for a stupid-large version (5648x2120, 8.5 mb) so that you can see the amazing detail in some of these outfits (and faces of folks you might know!). See if you can find the young Saladin with inadvertent horns!
Straight from Bungie's Creations page, Cozmo has singled out Kob One's artwork for this week's excellent Community Focus. Kob One comes off as a real down-to-earth Guardian who understands the Titan struggle, so check out his thoughts and artwork!
B.org's very own Hedgem0ny gets the spotlight in the latest Community Focus feature over on Bungie.net. Hedge has been busy finding and retweeting Destiny-themed artwork over on Twitter (not to mention making some of his own!) since before the game shipped last Fall, and DeeJ grills him for the details about "community art curation." Go check out the interview! (Thanks, bluerunner).
A recent Community focus on Bungie.net was shined on TerraMantis, the creator of the impressive 'Crota, the Light Eater' piece we mentioned a couple of weeks ago. It's an interesting read... because TerraMantis is an interesting person. Check out Parts 1 and 2 of his '10 Things You Don't Know about Destiny' series, below.
The Destiny Facebook page has a new gallery of some of the cosplay and other excitement that's appeared outside Bungie's studios at today's community event, including a huge Fallen Skiff that's been built on site. So, uh, who gets to take that home? UPDATE: The gallery has been updated with a few more photos and some guy named Claude Errera (I think I know that name from a club I went to once) dropped by a few more pics of the Skiff.
Wow. Bungie's opening their office doors to the fans the day before Destiny hits! If you're one of the first 300 attendees, you "stand a good chance" of coming inside and taking part in a tour and a Crucible match - Monday, September 8th, from Noon to Five. Oh, to live in Seattle...
You’re invited to be our guest, right here at Bungie. We’re throwing our doors open wide. Come and see where we work. Meet the people who have prepared Destiny for launch. Put your skills to the test in our arena. While you wait for your turn, anything can happen. It is, after all, a public event."
SigbiasSilva was first on our forum to post about it!
Fatherly figures take the spotlight in the latest Community Focus, as DeeJ questions the Dads of Destiny on why their Bungie.net clan was formed and how they find the time to raise Fusion Rifles between bouts of raising children. Check out the article to see just how many Dad Jokes made the cut! (Thanks, Xenos.)
I'm still catching up on news after a month-long hiatus, but the first thing I wanted to point out was the latest Community Focus over on the Bungie Blog. Destiny Community Hub is a fan-made application for those newfangled "smart" phones and aims to aggregate content from a wide range of Destiny community outlets. It's only available on the Android platform right now, but John and Justin have promised an iOS version is on the horizon. Check out DeeJ's interview with the crafty programmers and then go download the app!
Yesterday, Bungie posted a new Community Focus article - this one spotlighting USplendid, a fan who splits his Destiny time between B.net and reddit. It's an interesting read - swing by and see what drew him in, and what keeps him going! (We're a day late - don't blame sario, he wasn't.)
Xenos is looking to assemble some Bungie-lovers this Thursday on Halo 3 ("Arguably the greatest Bungie game ever made." - Leviathan Magazines), so clear your schedules and join some friends or friends-to-be in the chaos! There's nothing like bonding while you get picked off by a BR or surprised to death with dual Maulers.
The first Bungie.net Community Focus of 2014 shines the spotlight on the very YouTube channel featured in the first DBO news post of 2014. Coincidence? Probably, but at any rate you should check out the article to learn more about the alliterative force behind "Datto Does Destiny". (Thanks, sario.)
The latest community focus has been posted over at Bungie.net, and this time the subject of scrutiny is Fran (also known as ShadE09) and his website, That Destiny Blog. Check it out!
When he's not narrating gaming videos for his 200,000 subscribers on YouTube, JayEx23 seems to be a man of few words - which is why the latest Community Focus is shorter than a half-dozen fortune cookie notes. Head over to Bungie.net to find out what Destiny features this FPS fanatic is looking forward to trying out!
Awesomely organized by our community members, there are a couple of chances this week to play with friends or soon-to-be friends. Be sure to check these forum posts to to see how to join in on the fun and if there's been any updates/changes.
Tonight:
Thursday:
(Now let's see... Did I mention Halo 3, the Return of the King of the Halo trilogy, is free? Well... It is. NOW GO.)
An article of skill most sublime, this came in just in time,
For if we do not have a post for every day, all that was good in this website will fall away.
So let us thank Deej for pointing it out, in these days of Destiny drought,
As well as this poet for lyrics so sweet, that the reader must be sitting upon the edge of their seat.
Though, if tomorrow you do not hear from me a peep... Claude has likely strangled me in my sleep.
Hedgem0ny, longtime Bungie fan and amphibious storyteller, was reminded of something from Halo 3 at about 30 seconds into the video from yesterday and decided to elaborate:
Hint: it's the memorial hologram suspended in the Halo 3 map, Epitaph. Whatever that structure is in Destiny, it's definitely beaming with the ancient civilizations and mysterious intelligences Bungie is known for... Unless it's just the Fallen's outhouse.
Bungie released a thank-you video today - a two and a half minute slice of memory pie, slathered with delicious teasers of goodies to come. A look back at the last few months of community interaction with Destiny content, topped off with new (and fantastic) music... go watch!
(EDIT: You can also watch this in our video gallery - and be sure to discuss what you see in this forum thread Xenos started! -- ncsuDuncan)
As DBO and HBO slowly returns to its usual livelihood, we'll start to see plenty of write-ups and photos of the always-fantastic experience that PAX is. Bungie has started an album on their Facebook page showing off some of the fans they rallied this weekend. The keen-sighted might recognize our own nscuDuncan in a few of them, as well as some of the Hunter cosplay we mentioned this weekend.
(Bungie also picked up an exclusive Mars Curiosity Hot Weels. Besides wanting one myself, I got to love whenever Bungie connects their own inspiring space exploration to the real thing.)
We've already featured his work on our frontpage four times in the past twelve days, but now INVSMCHN gets his turn in the spotlight over at Bungie.net in this week's Community Focus. Go see what makes this translucent automaton tick! (Be sure to check out the full size version of the poster above.)
What would you ask a Bungie employee if you were stuck with them in an elevator? YouTuber David from Destiny Updates answered that question and many more in DeeJ's latest Community Focus. Read the full article over at Bungie.net and find out what motivates this video investigator!
