The Know's Destiny Week: Building a 10-Year Universe

Ashley Jenkins and The Know has their final installment of Destiny Week online - it's a look at the world Bungie's building that they're hoping you'll be living in for the next 10 years. An intriguing quote from Jesse Van Dijk, explaining why a particular image from early concept art didn't make it into the final game:

"What we see there is not really indicative of something that says 'Hey, this is humanity that went through 700 years of sped up evolution.' ...and we need it to."

This is a nice little insight into what the Traveler has done to mankind in its time above our planet! Go watch the rest. Thanks, Xenos.

Destiny Strike Gameplay - IGN's Rewind Theater

IGN's Ryan McCaffrey and Jose Otero put yesterday's Strike Gameplay video into their Rewind Theater, and took a pretty close look. (It took them 20 minutes to get through the 7 minute video.) Go enjoy! (Again, it was Xenos who pointed this out. I can't remember - do we pay him enough?)

Prepare for the Drop

In anticipation for tomorrow's Destiny news coverage, Bungie deployed two video teases on instagram to help whet appetites. The first video shows off three ships flying in formation and the second video provides a brief glimpse at a map - interesting! Thanks, SigbiasSilva and bluerunner.

UPDATE: Seems there is a third video I missed - doh!

Digging up the roots

Jordan117 made a name for himself in the HBO community as a fan who was really good about pulling together disparate information and finding cool connections. Yesterday, he showed up on the DBO forum with a post that bodes well for speculators everywhere - go give it a read, and see what you think about his theory on the City's location (and its overall place in the Bungieverse)!

Marty O'Donnell - After Bungie

The big Destiny news of the week, so far, has been the firing of Marty O'Donnell as Audio Director; neither side is offering details on the event (though Bungie has confirmed that Marty's music will remain in the game). We had a chance to talk to Marty this morning - and while there aren't a lot of answers for fans who want to know what happened behind closed doors, it was comforting to hear Marty's positive comments about the game, and about the people he's worked alongside for so many years. More than anything, we want the best for both sides - we're fans of Bungie as well as of its games, and we count many of their employees among our friends. Go read.

January GameInformer Article now free for everyone

gameinformer_logo.pngIf you missed GameInformer's January 2014 article because you didn't have a subscription, you're in luck - GI has released that article to everyone, for free. Awesome! (It's a really good read, and contains a boatload of info we haven't seen elsewhere. You've probably seen most of the content now via third-party sources - but here's your chance to read the actual article.)

Rendering the Future

Natalya Tatarchuk, Chris Tchou, and Joe Venzon (Bungie Engineers all), along with others from the industry, presented a course entitled 'Advances in Real-Time Rendering in Games' at last year's SIGGRAPH - we somehow didn't notice until now (when redditor BrianX44 posted a link to the slides on the Destiny subreddit). Better late than never! Go look - it might give you some insights into the Destiny engine!
