We forgot to get to this yesterday... but it's still relevant. (If you haven't tried out this week's Nightfall, you're missing out - mostly on Warlock bonds and powerful primary weapons. And lots and lots of bad puns.)
It's that time again - even a little late, maybe. Cozmo is on the job, though, and there's a weekly update from Bungie on their website. What's in it, you ask? Well... let's see. The Away Team is in LA, wearing red discussing Rise of Iron. The home team is monitoring changes introduced in your gameplay environment this past Tuesday. Iron Banner is coming next week, folks are experimenting with the new Chroma colors, Elder Champions scores are lower than usual (thanks, Trickle!), and a couple of great videos are presented for your amusement. Go read! (Or locally, if you'd rather.)
Betcha can't stick it... anymore. The June update is live, removing the ability to stick Tripmines to enemies (they've clearly learned to lather themselves with oil). Don't despair too much about this and other nerfs, because Hunters (and the other classes) have also seen a number of PvE buffs to help with the Orb-making. And you'll need those buffs, because a few of your favorite weapons have received some balance tweaks as well.
If you've been holding off on buying The Taken King, it's never been as good a time to jump in as right now; Activision is offering the Legendary Edition for 50% off, for the next few days. You get a digital version of the original game, plus all expansions (including The Taken King, of course) and a character boost that will start you out at level 25, for $30. Not too shabby! Thanks, Nevin, for the heads-up!
Breitzen combined the old and the new to come up with a trailer for Rise of Iron that hearkens back to one of the earliest views of Destiny that we have. I think it works really nicely!
As you might expect, the current update from Bungie is focused on The Rise of Iron expansion, coming this fall. (It was revealed this morning, so why WOULDN'T it be the topic of conversation?) Swing by for links to all of the media links released so far (including some sweet new desktops). The normal stuff is there, too - tidbits from the Destiny Player Support team (new update coming soon), scores from the highest-performing Challenge of Elders players, fun videos. (The 60 second Golgoroth kill is pretty impressive; if Bungie hasn't fixed their link yet, our local archive copy has a corrected one.) Check it out!
The Rise of Iron has officially been announced, and there is a lot to get excited about! New Raid, new Strike, new zone, and cyborg Fallen enemies! Watch the trailer below, or visit the official site for more details. Oh did I mention Gjallahorn is coming back?
SOMEONE has been playing games other than Destiny recently... (In Stuntmutt's defense, he's noticed that playing Doom and then switching back to Destiny is like race training in high altitude... the Crucible becomes easier after the super-speed carnage against demons. Give it a try!)
The update available this week is light - but still worth reading. Not going to E3? You should watch next week's Twitch stream, then, for more info on what's coming in the fall. Wondering about numbers from last week's Iron Banner? Deej's got 'em for you. Having problems with in-game unlocks? Destiny Player Support has your back. Did you score high in last week's Challenge of Elders? The top 3 teams are listed. Wanna watch some cool vids? Cozmo's got some doozys. (I had no clue you could throw a grenade through that slot on Dungeons...) Go read! Thanks, CyberKN. We have a local version, as usual.
The weekly report out of Bungie headquarters this week is a summary of what we've seen in the last few days: a new Ride-Along, a new hotfix, a new Iron Banner, help with in-game Roster problems, details of the high scorers this week in the Challenge of Elders, and some great fan-made movies. Go give it a read! (We have a local copy as well, if you need it.)
Ever wanted to know what goes into making one of Destiny's Crucible maps? World Artists Mick Buckmiller, Coolie Calihan, and Adam Williams join DeeJ for this week's Bungie Ride Along to help answer some of those questions!
Edit: This is available as a Twitch archive, now. (Thanks, CyberKN.)
Printable Grimoire Cards, For The Historian In You.
If you have a spare ream of paper that you're eager to use, Reddit user rustwoodstudios has created over a thousand Grimoire Cards available for printing (along with instructions to help you print them correctly). To print out all of the cards in this massive project, you will need at least 251 sheets of paper and a disregard for the price of printer ink (I suggest printing them at work, surely nobody will mind). Thanks for the heads-up, Claude!
Swing by Bungie to read the latest weekly update (or find it in our local archive) - it's got some important info. The biggest bit is the fact that a bug found recently in the way the Cocoon perk works has caused this weekend's Trials of Osiris (and possibly next week's Iron Banner) to be cancelled - stay tuned for info on when things will be back to normal. Even if you don't play either one of those modes, go give it a read - there's a look back at yesterday's Raid-Along (I'm sorry I didn't make that pun myself this morning), along with high scores for this week's Challenge of Elders, help tips and hints, and some fun videos. ('Nova-Bummed' made me laugh out loud.) Go read!
Yesterday, Bungie hosted another Ride-Along - this time around, DeeJ, Designer Brendan Thorne and Writer Jill Scharr comment on a King's Fall Raid run, as played by 6 other devs. (A sad goodbye to nearly the entire team; their job was to complete the raid without dying, on penalty of job loss for failure... and with the exception of Chase Christian (and Brandon Bjarnason, technically, since his death occurred after Oryx's death), all of them died at least once, with Cozmo_BNG adding a mind-boggling 4 casualties to the total.) If you're not a big Raider, this is a really useful demonstration of techniques and routes... and even if you DO raid a lot, you'll likely see things that make you reconsider your preferred practices, and you'll learn things you didn't know about the lore behind the encounters. It will be available on YouTube eventually, but you can watch the archived stream on Twitch right now. Check this out - a fun watch!
It looks like our Fan Fiction section is coming out of hibernation! There are three new pieces there for your reading pleasure right now - two poems and a short story. Go check 'em out!
Today's update from Bungie covers some interesting topics; there's a recap of yesterday's Twitch stream, in which Bungie artists hold forth on the beauty of the Destiny universe... there are some previews of upcoming Destiny Companion features that will make it easier to find playing companions... there's info on the latest updates to the multiplayer code (are your melees hitting better now?)... and there are a couple of great fan-generated videos. Go read! (It's also local, as usual, if you need it.)
Today's Twitch stream (11am PST/2pm EST) highlights Bungie artists Jesse van Dijk, Joseph Cross, and Adrian Majkrzak, who are responsible for much of the great artwork in Destiny. Give the stream a watch, and then go check out each of their excellent works, or discuss on the forum!
Sometimes it can be difficult to get a Fireteam together to tackle Oryx on the harder difficulty setting. Fortunately, Esoterickk has put up a handy guide to help you become a kingslayer all on your own... Provided that you can repeatedly recover from four bombs detonating at once, of course.
After a break, our Fan Fiction section has received a new submission - The Whirlwind has given us 'Formless, Before the Dark Mirror: I', a piece which evokes a complicated relationship. Give it a read!
Destiny Hot Fix 2.2.0.2 (The one about melee attacks)
It's a minor one, but the greatly-anticipated Hotfix for melee attacks (discussed in last week's TWAB post) is Live now. Notes are available over on Bnet (and locally), if you're curious about a couple of other fixes included in the patch.
