This was also posted on our sister site at HBO, but warrants a mention here as well, considering the love and thanks bestowed specifically on Bungie by bungie.org member Mr Daax. He's crafted the latest entry on the Ago of Gratitude site, and it's a great read. Check it out, as well as a ton of other stories that will bring you back and give you warm fuzzies and awesome memories. Go look!
Only our Guardians of the Seventh Column can make a sunny day seem like so much more. From their Twitter feed:
"It's amazing how the light of the unshielded daystar improves the mood at Bungie sevenfold. People are blissed out to be wearing shades."
And people wonder why we love them...
We've mentioned this tech before in the context of Destiny and GDC, but now you can watch the session in its entirety. It's a fairly technical presentation, but is certainly interesting if you want to dig into some of the finer points about what's required to bring a modern game title to life.
The official Twitter account for Destiny (and matching Facebook page) recently posted the above piece of concept art. We first saw it during the GDC presentation, but this cropped version doesn't suffer from the blurriness of a screengrab.
Legends are not remembered by the great deeds they perform, but by the bravery it took to achieve them.
What dangers await us in these eroding ruins? (Thanks, Xenos.)
If you haven't perused the Bungie.net careers page lately, give it a quick read - at least one of the positions listed is new to me:
As a Raid Designer you will work with Designers, Artists, Engineers, and Producers to create memorable, bond-building encounters that players will scour YouTube to defeat.
I especially like these two bullet points under Required Skills:
- Deep proficiency and skill playing first-person shooters
- Max level character with significant end game Player versus Environment experience in a popular online game.
Anyone have a WoW account I can borrow?
Another week has passed, and another Mailsack has been posted at Bungie.net. Go read about a "boss" fight, Bungie's own MacGyver, and the embarrassment of employees new and old. (Thanks, Xenos.)
The Destiny twitter feed posted that the Destiny fan art gallery is now complete - go check out all the awesome community art. Nice!
Ready Up Live's Greenskull posted a recap of the last two mail sacks and shares his thoughts on the May 21st Xbox Reveal.
This isn't Destiny concept art - you're looking at a photo taken by astronaut Chris Hadfield from the International Space Station! The view is certainly stunning, even if that isn't the Traveler. (click for full size)
Cody Miller let us know that he's posted a previously-unheard first attempt at recording the Rampancy.net podcast episode we mentioned back in May. If you've got 2.5 hours to burn, you could do worse than listen to a few community regulars discuss Destiny news!
The DBO Challenge returns! Check the thread for highlights from week four's limerick competition and learn about the fresh challenge for week five, where you can earn points by inventing a new weapon for Destiny and giving it a backstory. Get to it!
According to a Bungie tweet, submissions are now posted from the Earth Day Artist's Challenge we mentioned last week. The album is posted on Bungie's Facebook page, but it doesn't look like you need a Facebook account to view the pieces themselves. Go check it out and see how your fellow Guardians are planning to defend our home turf!
It may be a slow couple of weeks for Destiny news, but that can't stop the guys over at The Guardians of Destiny! They've released Episode 10 of the Guardian Radio podcast, clocking in at almost an hour and a half of Destiny discussion for your listening pleasure. Thanks to roland for a heads-up in the forum.
The official Destiny fan page on Facebook has posted a small gallery of Fan Art; the five pieces cover a wide variety of styles. (Hopefully you recognize the fourth image - it's the one Levi created for our DBO twitter account background!)
It's Monday and at Bungie that means it's mail time - so dip your quill in some ink and ready yourself for lingua paper cuts (or heat your wax if you're the sophisticated type.)
Conscars just finished a piece of Destiny fan art titled "Enemy Territory" - I think he captured the "Mythic Science Fiction" aspect pretty well. Be sure to also check out his first piece of Destiny fan art (I absolutely love this piece.) Very impressive work, especially for someone with no formal art training. Go check it out!
343 Industries' concept artist, Sparth, shared some incredible Destiny inspired art - it's a very interesting take on The Traveler. I hope he shares some more Destiny inspired pieces!
The Guardians of Destiny released the latest episode of Guardian Radio v.5 - the crew covers the latest Destiny news including recent information regarding Speed Tree technology and discuss a Destiny PC release. Go catch up on this week's Destiny news! Thanks, Cambone.
It's Friday, and you know what that means. This week's Mail Sack is posted over on Bungie.net, and the conversation continues to dance along the edge of the unknown, whetting our appetites with every wisp of detail. After you've read-up, continue the conversation in our forum!
We missed it on Monday, but Bungie tweeted about an Earth Day-inspired "artist challenge" that they have going on right now:
#EarthDay Artist Challenge! Draw your Guardian defending Earth. Submit art by 4/29/13 to Destinycommunity@activision.com #Destiny
– Destiny The Game (@DestinyTheGame) April 22, 2013
And in case you're looking for some inspiration (for the challenge or otherwise), be sure to check out this beautiful new previously-seen concept art that was tweeted today:
Enjoy, then go get those paint brushes warmed-up!
This week's Community Focus at Bungie.net shines the spotlight on threesided, who has been treating the community to gorgeous Destiny-themed artwork for the last couple of months (and making waves in the process). Inspiring!
DeeJ is now taking questions for this week's Mail Sack. Load up your questions about life at Bungie, then head on over to Bungie.net and hit him with your best shot!
Hylebos noticed something different about the article picture for the Destiny Character Development article - it's sporting a new Hunter character class screenshot. DeeJ was able to confirm that the screenshot was in fact different and kindly provided a wallpaper version for your greedy needs. Neat!
The Guardians of Destiny just debuted Guardian Radio .5 - a "bite-sized" podcast that covers the week's latest stories. This week the crew covers a few Destiny related articles, the latest Bungie mail sack and highlights what's been going on around the Destiny community. Go listen!
