It's Thursday, so the summary of Bungie's week is live at Bungie.net (and in our Weekly Update Archive) - swing by to read it! The roadmap they published yesterday on Twitter is in there, if you missed it, along with a substantial update from Sandbox Design Lead Josh Hamrick (some interesting tidbits in there, and some very welcome news for charging Titans), details about the recent update and known issues arising from it via the Destiny Player Support team, and a pair of fun vids. Go give it a few minutes!
Destiny Update 1.1.2 is now live, and the patch notes include all the changes in this one. It's a hefty list; in addition to the main event (the addition of Armor Masterworks), there are many, many little changes, solving problems that bugged you and problems you didn't even know about. Check out the full deal, either at Bungie.net or in our own Patch Note Archive!
For the update this week Bungie has included a ton of great info about the update coming next week. Included is the dates and loot coming for Iron Banner (starting January 30th), the fine details about Masterworks Armor, the rework of the Raid rewards system (including one new exotic Ghost shell), and the smaller fixes and tweaks coming in the patch itself. In addition make sure to read Tyson Green's details on why deleting shaders hasn't been improved yet, including their plans to rework the entire shader system to make it more friendly. And to finish it off the Movie of the Week is a lightning fast Argos kill. Check it out! (Local copy will be here)
The first update of the year is somewhat brief, as Cozmo is busy wiping the cobwebs from his desk (welcome back!). The big news is the Development Update that we spoke about earlier today, where you can get a decent head's up on what's to come to the world of Destiny 2 in the coming months. Faction Rally is set to return next week, with all three factions offering an Auto Rifle (and some new duds) as a reward for your loyalty, though Destiny Player Support informs us that the game will be down for maintenance from 8-12pm on Tuesday in order to make it all happen. Cozmo wraps it all up with four Movies of the Week, including a wonderful piano arrangement of "Journey", by Lady Desiree. Give it a read over at Bungie's site, or check the local copy available here.
Pushing their communication with the community to a new extreme, Game Director Christopher Barrett has outlined Bungie's upcoming plans to improve the player experience throughout the next few months (and beyond) of Destiny 2, as well as clarifying what content you're getting whether you buy the game's DLC or not. 6v6, Private Matches, Raid perks, reduced Eververse focus (and yes, more vault space), all of these things and more will be making their way to the game this year, with one of the first updates coming on January 30. A lot of these features have been requested for quite a while, so it's great to see that They're Listening indeed!
cheapLEY let us know about a recent stop-motion commercial for the Destiny line of Mega Construx toys. They sure managed to pack a lot of charm into those tiny figurines, so give it a watch to brighten your day!
Squee...! Check out this one of a kind custom Shade of Oryx that started with a #Funko Oryx Pop! Amazing work by my colleague, Glenn Gamble! pic.twitter.com/0GcD1zR4Y8
This week was a busy one for Bungie, with a notable update having been released earlier this week, and some important info on a misstep and the work being done to correct it.
And while it's the final update of the year, the world of Destiny 2 is by no means slowing down, with The Dawning (and a new Osiris-themed webcomic) on the way next week, which looks like it'll be a ton of fun! Destiny Player Support never rests either, with a list of this week's known issues, and a reminder that while most of the folks at Bungie will be away for the holidays, there are a number of ways that you can still make your voice heard!
Capping things off, the MoTW's are all about wordless expressions (possibly in honor of the all-deaf team that managed to conquer the new Raid Lair?), and we are left with a reminder that the updates to the game will continue early into the new year. Check it out over at Bungie's site, or feel free to read the local copy available here, then get ready to throw some snowballs on Tuesday!
Once again, Cody Miller has done us the huge favor of recording the newest Destiny 2 cutscenes, in 1080p glory and 5.1 audio - you can find them available for streaming or download in our Cutscene Library. (He's also fleshed out the two missing subclass videos, for Titans, if you needed to see those.) Enjoy!
Yesterday, Bungie posted another update about Destiny 2 - the week was unsurprisingly dominated by the launch of Curse of Osiris. If you missed the trailer, it's included. If you need info on the launch of the Raid Lair, it's included. If you're curious about the next Faction Rally, which launches next Tuesday, it's included. If you're wondering about balance tweaks, a discussion is included. If you want to know how Bungie handles feedback, it's included. It should go without saying that the standard features - help from the Support team, and fan-created vids - are included. Go read! We've got it in our Weekly Update Archive, if you need it.
dmg04 posted the most recent Bungie Weekly Update yesterday (Cozmo's still out on paternity leave) - swing by to catch up. There are links to Wednesday's blog update and podcast, if you missed those. There is a preview of the armor and weapons dropping with Curse of Osiris on Tuesday. There's a pre-flight check from Destiny Player Support, so you're ready to play CoO as soon as it's out. And there are a couple of impressive fan vids for your enjoyment. Go read! (It's also in our Weekly Update Archive, if you'd rather.)
Do you use Amazon Alexa? Do you play Destiny 2? You can combine these products with a new free skill, available for Amazon Alexa devices, and enhance your overall Destiny 2 experience! You link it to your Bungie.net account, and it can help with all sorts of things, from info about activities to equipping loadouts. The Destiny the Game website has an entire page devoted to this skill, if you need more info before you get started (or if you need help finding enabled Alexa devices). Again - this skill is free, if you've already got an Alexa device. If you really want to push into the world of integration, you can buy a $90 Ghost speaker for Alexa (this will be available on December 19, but can be preordered now). Not sure how this all works? Three minute-long videos have been posted - the first is embedded below, the other two are linked.
Join Luke Smith, Mark Noseworthy, and Eric Osborne as they sound off on the state of Destiny 2, what it takes to update the game, and where we’re heading next.
48 minutes of conversation from people who build the game this site is devoted to - Go listen! Thanks, CyberKN, for the heads-up.
As promised, Bungie posted a roadmap of the changes coming soon to Destiny (some as early as next week, some as late as "early 2018"), with the goal of not only being more transparent in their communications with the fanbase, but in being more transparent with reward systems within the game. It's a pretty interesting read - check it out! We've got a forum thread started, if you want to react.
DeeJ posted a note over in the Bungie.net forums this morning, explaining that tomorrow's scheduled Twitch Livestream will be postponed, in order to focus on some higher-level info about Destiny 2's roadmap, going forward. Look for a Bungie Blog post tomorrow. (We'll be sure to point it out if you miss it.)
Tomorrow, we had planned to conduct the final stream prior to the launch of “Curse of Osiris†to show off some of the weapons and armor the expansion includes. Instead, we are investing all our efforts into delivering some higher priority information about Destiny 2. You’ll hear from studio leadership about their assessment of Destiny all up, they’ll talk about our goals for the game going forward, and you’ll also learn about how we’re reacting to your feedback with some game updates that will arrive in the next few weeks.
The Bungie folks are gone for Thanksgiving, but we still get an update before they go! The whole thing starts with an archived recording of the "New Ways To Play" stream from Tuesday, showcasing some of the new features available in the upcoming Curse of Osiris. And for those running into erroneous error messages on PC, while you're swallowing your turkey, Destiny Player Support is looking for a way to swallow your Buffalo, with some helpful troubleshooting steps to get you back in the game (have you tried configuring your UPnP?). They have also included a list of other known issues, so stand by for some fixes for those! The short-but-sweet update is wrapped up with Montage-focused MotWs, and a reminder of next Wednesday's stream, which will show off the new loot that you can acquire once the expansion drops on December 5th. A local copy will be available soon (some of us are also gone for the holiday!), and thanks go to CougRon for letting us know about the early update!
Warlocks Continue To Confound Destiny's Raid Bosses
While they can take away our Self-rez, Bungie just can't stop Warlocks from circumventing the Raid boss mechanics. Case in point, Reddit user GladdHeAteHer182 and his crew of Warlocks drop the Leviathan Raid's only boss, Calus, using Arc Souls, and only Arc Souls to damage him. Gladd explains how it's possible to pull off this crazy feat in his reddit post, so give it a read, since there are a couple of neat details that apply just to this encounter. Either way, it's just a fun challenge and video all around. Warlocks! Thanks to Schedonnardus for the heads up on our forum.
With most of the team gearing up for upcoming Destiny content, and Cozmo taking time off to care for the newest addition to the family (congrats!), this week's update is brought to us by dmg04, the current Acting Community Manager. He brings us an archived upload of the "New Stories To Tell" stream from Wednesday, with a hint of what we can expect from the next one. There is also a reminder about New Monarchy's Faction Rally victory (grab that Sword if you qualified!), and a some info on Iron Banner's return on Tuesday (the gametype will be Clash!). Destiny Player Support has some Hotfix troubleshooting, and this week's MoTWs are all about talent and style. As always, a local copy is available to check out here, and thanks go to Kahzgul for letting us know about the update.
It's possible that you'd forgotten we have a Fan Fiction section - it's seen 4 updates in the past 2 years, with the last one almost 4 months ago. HWPD hasn't forgotten, though, and if you swing by, there are two unannounced installments of his "House of Mist" story. Go read 'em!
A couple of years ago, we mentioned a GDC talk given by Bungie's Justin Truman about the network architecture in Destiny, and how it tied together the spatial structure of the game. The GDC Vault has now posted that talk for public viewing - if reading the PDF didn't do it for you then, you can watch Justin give it in video form now! Thanks, INSANEdrive.
Faction Rally isn't the only thing seeing some cultivation this week, as Bungie's update shows. The December 5th patch dropping with Curse of Osiris is bringing a whole slew of refinements and changes, which Bungie helps fill us in on. Ready for some HDR and 4K on your premium consoles? Looking forward to an emote wheel? Wondering what's next for clans (and those who turn to clans for help through Guided Games)? Information on all that and more can be found in this update.
Other than that, Destiny Player Support has some information on a big change coming to the weekly refresh schedule, and the Movies of the Week offer up something way different than the usual fare, so check them out, either at Bungie's own site, or here in the local copy. Thanks, CougRon for letting us know!
The Weekly Update this time around is full of tasty tidbits; dates for the upcoming Twitch livestreams explaining the DLC that drops in December, info on next week's Rally Faction, a reminder that Trials of the Nine launches again tomorrow, details about problems they're working on solving, and more. You should go read it - either on Bungie.net or in our own Weekly Update Archive. (And in case you missed it, a Hotfix dropped this morning - that, too, can be found in our Archives.)
