Playstation users get in early

INSANEdrive noticed that an ad at Gamesradar announces a four-day exclusive period for Destiny Beta players using Playstations. Not as long as some thought... but maybe enough for hardcore fans to help make up their minds on which platform to buy?

Guardian Radio Episode 64

g_o_d.jpgRoland let us know that the latest episode of Guardian Radio is out:

This week we share with you all our E3 plans. If you missed the announcement on Twitter this past week, Mark and Craig are two of the Destiny Mentors who have been teased by DeeJ in the past few Bungie Weekly Updates. Sitting in with the crew is Cozmo, founder of the reddit.com/r/DestinytheGame Subreddit and another member of the Bungie E3 Mentor team. He helps us break down the latest Bungie Weekly Update, the latest Destiny news, and answer your questions and comments.

Whoa, that Bungie E3 Mentor team sounds pretty cool! Rumor has it one of the unmentioned team members is astonishingly handsome, humble, and subtle. Then again, there are always a ton of ridiculous rumors before E3...

Clear Skies over the Battlegrounds

The Bungie Weekly Update is live, bringing with it the clatter of skirmishes on the proving ground.

of the first potential legends; the best hunting the beta has to offer.
He calls himself Tocom.

Go read! (It's local, too.)

gamespot_logo.pngAccording to Gamespot, Destiny has become the first game on the PS4 to support preloading - the ability to download a digital title before release, so that you're ready to play on Launch Day. Not a bad reason to buy your copy from the PlayStation Store!

8-Bit Destiny

Back in February, Chris Barrett tweeted a picture that showed off some very cool 8-bit avatars he'd created for the 2014 Bungie Pentathlon. kidtsunami wanted to make them more available for fan use, so he cut them out and put them on transparent backgrounds. You'll find them in his forum post.

Test Ride Your Guardian This July

Earlier today Gameinfomer reported that Activision's quarter earnings call mentioned that access to the Destiny beta would begin in July. Bungie later confirmed the news and promised that an exact date would be announced at E3.

My excitement is building! (Thanks to ncsuDuncan for the Activision slides and DaDerga for pointing out the GI article).

Activision's $500 Million Investment

Half a billion dollars. That's how much Reuters says Activision is putting into developing and promoting Destiny:

CEO Bobby Kotick revealed the number, which dwarfs Hollywood spending on some of its biggest firms, during the Milken conference in Los Angeles last week. A company spokesperson said on Monday the number was accurate but also included marketing, packaging, infrastructure support, royalties and other costs.

While that sounds like a huge sum of cash for a new IP, keep in mind that Destiny is planned to be a 10-year franchise:

The spokesperson added that investment in the next generation engine and a "robust backend infrastructure are upfront expenditures that should reduce future product development costs."

"Over the long term, we expect the ultimate product costs to be roughly in line with other Triple-A titles."

This just leaves one question: What's the exchange rate of dollars to glimmer? (Thanks for the heads-up, Mr Danger.)

An Epic Poster of Adventure and Exploration

Deviant art user shrimpy99 made this stunningly simple Destiny poster that would look great printed out as alternate box art. I'd take credit for finding this, but naturally Hedge pointed it out over a week ago!

Get to E3 this year - on someone else's dime

game.pngIf you live in the UK (or Ireland), GAME might be able to get you to E3 - they're offering an all-expense-paid trip for two in a giveaway that requires you only to do some tweeting (and following). Nice! (When I mentioned this on our forum, Doooskey pointed out that EA was offering a similar deal here in the US, as well... sign up!)

Bungie's Date with Destiny

eurogamer.pngEurogamer has released another Destiny article - but this one looks more at the studio behind the game than at the game itself. It's a pretty interesting read, covering ground not really covered before. Bungie has been on its own before (in the 90s), and it's been wholly owned by a much bigger fish (when it was a Microsoft subsidiary), and it's now somewhere in the middle; it's beholden to Activision (simply by dint of the huge amount of cash poured into the studio from Activision coffers), but it's still its own company, capable of making decisions it couldn't make while part of Microsoft. Eurogamer tried to get a handle on how this is working - go give it a read! Credit, almost inevitably these days, goes to Xenos for the find.

Destiny Strike Gameplay - IGN's Rewind Theater

IGN's Ryan McCaffrey and Jose Otero put yesterday's Strike Gameplay video into their Rewind Theater, and took a pretty close look. (It took them 20 minutes to get through the 7 minute video.) Go enjoy! (Again, it was Xenos who pointed this out. I can't remember - do we pay him enough?)
