The Cryptarch Learned His Lesson

Bungie pushed out patch 1.0.2 yesterday, known by some (aka Steve) as the "Sack of Doorknobs" patch. Every purple engram you pick up from now on will yield a Legendary or Exotic item or material! And daily and weekly missions have a chance to yield engrams now! See Bungie's post for the full patch details. (Thanks Blackt1g3r)

Posters with a Purpose

Laird stopped by to let us know that he's put up a pair of autographed Destiny posters for auction on eBay and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Child's Play charity. (Item #1, Item #2) The auctions end on Monday, but get your bid in now if you're interested - it's for a good cause! (Thanks for being awesome, Laird.)

Destiny Cutscene Library - Open

Took considerably longer than I'd expected (which was COMPLETELY not Cody's fault), but the Destiny Cutscene Library is finally open for business. As before, they've been recorded in various sizes (up to 1080p), and 5.1 Surround Sound - go enjoy! If you were playing with a group that spoke over these when they first showed, or you just want to be able to watch them back to back, for whatever reason... we've got you covered. Huge thanks to Cody Miller for the recordings.

The Quiet Destiny and Its Evolution

eurogamer.pngWe haven't been able to catalog every article that's sprung up about Destiny since its release (I keep getting distracted at work checking out every dark office I walk by for tinkling sounds and blue lights, sorry) but here's a couple of decent ones from EuroGamer that DaDerga pointed out to us. The first discusses Destiny's quiet moments and some of the awe to be found therein. The other is a technical summary of the changes Destiny went through between it's first gameplay reveal to what's in your hands. Enjoy!

Visit Your Local Infested Planetoid Today!

We got tipped that Noble--6 crafted up some neat posters - a few focusing on the locations you visit in Destiny and others highlighting the playable classes. Check out his DeviantArt Folder for all of 'em.

Cryptarch Patch 1.0.2

Bungie today also posted some notes regarding next week's 1.0.2 patch focusing on engrams and loot drops. There's an important note regarding Legendary engrams in case you've been holding onto them in the hopes of a patch:

Legendary Engram items that exist in your inventory will be demoted to Rare quality when the patch goes live, so decode them while you can. But let’s be honest--even if you don’t, we all know they were blues already…

No word on when the patch goes live other than "next week," but this weekend might be a good time to clear out those extra engrams.

Weekly Update and Destiny Soundtrack

The Bungie Weekly Update landed early today with the announcement of the long-awaited Destiny Original Soundtrack! You can grab it now from iTunes and the Update says that more information is coming next week about further availability. The full album (which I have yet to finish listening to) clocks in at over 2 hours, 18 minutes, which is right around the limit of a 2-CD set.

There's also an interview with Invigorate, the first clan to beat the Vault of Glass on hard mode, a mysterious coin hunt in the Tower, and another Mail Sack for your perusal.

Concepts of Destiny by Dorje Bellbrook

After a launch of a game, you start to see a lot of concept work that went into its construction finally released into the wild. This gallery by Dorje Bellbrook is full of pieces you've seen and haven't seen and it's a wonder to look through. And of course, there's art depicting places we haven't been - are these what Destiny might have included, or places we may yet go to in the future?

Dev Notes and Patch Notes

loot_cave.jpgDeeJ posted the latest patch notes today for 1.0.1.5 and also posted Bungie's thoughts on changes that they are planning based on feedback from the community. It's a really good read and shows they are listening to the community's desires. Thanks to UnrealCh13f for pointing it out on the forums! (If you're curious about the changes being made over time, we have a pretty straightforward Patch Note Archive here now - you can go back and see all patch note posts from B.net in one place.)

The Queen Is Angry

awake.png

The Tower's back porch is currently open and ready for company, including a messenger from the Queen of the Reef. With one of the coolest ships in the game (Even spaceships in Destiny have capes!) and some nice relaxing incense, she's ready to hand out rewards for those who earn enough reputation with the new Queen Bounties, which are available from Xander, like your standard bounties. There's also new Queen Kill Order missions that mix up the difficulty of campaign chapters and offer new rewards for completing them. Have at them, Guardian.

Patch 1.0.1.4

In case you missed it, Bungie's dev team listed the tweaks and fixes made to Destiny today at Bungie.Net, namely:

    • "Reduced difficulty by removing majors from Heroic tiers" of Shrine of Oryx, Sword of Crota, and Exclusion Zone.
    • "Dropping the relic at the end of the raid will no longer result in a team wipe. This will prevent players being stuck at a black screen after the raid."
    • "You will remain dead if you were dead when the mission ended. That will be addressed by a future patch."
Working on a way to make these game updates/fixes more accessible on DBO...

Strength In Light - Captured Sights

Bungie.Org's long lost cousin Hedgem0ny had screenshot and panorama blogs for Bungie's Halo 3, ODST, and Reach. Now he's doing it again for Destiny. Go take a look, he's always good at pointing out beautiful details that you might have missed in the heat of battle.

Bungie Weekly Update: Stats Fun & Renders

We'll eventually have a local copy of the update but for now you can head on over to Bungie.Net for some fun statistics on how many ridiculous hours players have already poured into Destiny, some even in the form of Lord of the Rings units, heh! There's also some info and interviews regarding the Raid and the first Raid victors.

If you don't normally read the Update, it's still worth checking out simply for the link to a series of posts from Bungie artists revealing some of their work in the game, from environment art to vehicle and weapon renders. They're not only desktop-worthy, they're inspiring!

Guardian Radio Episodes 77 & 78

Whoops! We missed posting about Guardian Radio Episode 77 last week! I wonder what we were doing... Also roland let us know about Episode 78, and here is his description:

Destiny has been deployed and this week we officially come to you LIVE from the Tower. This week we catch you up on the latest news surrounding the game and then dive in to our first impressions of the game. With one week under our belts we have a lot to say about Bungie’s shared world shooter. We share both the good and the bad but see that this is clearly a fantastic starting point for what is sure going to be one hell of a ride for the next 10 years.

Public Events Increased

Bungie pushed through a little patch the other day. Most of it is invisible stuff, fixes for behind the scenes, but the relevant change for players is that public events are now occuring twice as much! (Thanks, Yapok)

Can You Shatter the Vault of Glass?

vex.png

One stage of your journey may be over, but another is about to begin. The first of the new Raid levels, the ultimate gauntlet for your proven Fireteam to run, opens on Venus at 2:00 AM Pacific on Tuesday, September 16th. You'll need to be at least level 26 to attempt it. Also, the game will save your progress for a week if you keep your Fireteam leader consistent. Go read a bit more at Bungie.Net and then get back to hunting that sweet, sweet Light!

Fanart Roundup

Hedge is apparently the acting cryptarch of Destiny fanart through his Twitter. When a game is first announced, you see a lot of fanart inspired by what its art direction brings to the table. Now when a game launches, you get to see a slightly different breed of fanart created by personal experiences with the game, which is always fun! Maybe Sundays should just become a fanart roundup day?

10 Seconds Till Launch

My copy has just arrived so it's time to sign off for a bit. Enjoy the start of your adventures, whether it was at a midnight launch or a visit from a lonely wandering mailman. It's been a long time coming - a couple of years for DBO and four since Bungie's last game, wow!

So while I disappear for a bit, here's a sketch of The Speaker to remember me by. Just imagine Bill Nighy saying something epic and you'll be primed to take back our planets, Bungie-style.
